Schooner Serenity
Historic Yorktown Cruises and Private Charters
Four centuries ago, Captain John Smith explored the waters around Yorktown aboard a small sailing vessel while trading with the Powhatan Indians. Join him in spirit when you sail aboard Yorktown’s Schooner Serenity.
On the Historic Yorktown cruises you will sail past the Yorktown Battlefield where our country won its independence, and relive sailings golden age when a young America clambered aboard vessels similar to Serenity to find adventure.
Our knowledgeable crew will harmonize past with present as you view the Victory Monument along the banks of the York River, sight dolphins or osprey, sail by working watermen, or perhaps cruise past a naval warship or submarine. You can lend a hand at setting sail, enjoy a beverage or snack from the ships’ galley, or just listen to the sound of the wind as we glide along under a cloud of canvas. Our sails are set the traditional way with block and tackle, and a little elbow grease.
Our passengers are encouraged to help set sail, but by no means are they required to. There are no winches aboard Serenity (but occasionally there may be a few wenches on board!). Serenity is so much more than a sailing ship — it’s an opportunity to experience an exciting and unique time in America’s history! Yorktown is part of “America’s Historic Triangle” – the birthplace of American Democracy! Cruises depart from the Riverwalk Landing Pier.
Pirate Adventure Cruises
For a fun family adventure bring the kids to Captain Mayhem’s School of Piracy! On these cruises the kids will set the sails, steer the ship, learn sailor skills and get tattoed! This cruise is a must for the young pirates in your family!
